The Truth About Joshua Taipei Hernia Center

I will reveal the truth about Joshua Taipei Hernia Center in a Q & A format, referring to information on the Joshua Taipei Hernia Center website. Let’s discuss the following screenshot first.

Q: Where is Joshua Taipei Hernia Center?

A: The truth is that it does not really exist or not in the way the normal medical centers exist.

The address on Joshua Taipei Hernia Center website is the address of the Shu-Tien Urology Ophthalmology Clinic. This clinic is where patients meet with the lone licensed doctor of Joshua Taipei Hernia Center, which again is more of a figment than a center. In this old medical clinic, you have your initial ultrasound to confirm the existence of the hernia and consultation with the lone doctor, Lin Dinqqiu or Alpha, the English name he gave himself. This all happens in an hour-long appointment. After the appointment, you have to immediately pay for the cost of the ultrasound, because your interactions are done with the Shu-Tien Clinic, who does the ultrasound.

On a higher floor in the same building is an office space with the Joshua Taipei Hernia Clinic logo on the front desk. It is nicely decorated and has some hospital inspection beds, but it otherwise seemed like an unused office space. Perhaps, this is where Alpha Lin sends all the patients who have complications, so as to separate incoming patients with what I imagine is a ton of patients with chronic post-surgical problems, patients who he offers free therapy to. I was offered free therapy. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Thanks, but no thanks.

The surgery takes place at the West Garden Hospital. It seems most likely that Alpha Lin purchases operating room time at the hospital for his surgeries. If he was such a hernia expert as he claims, why doesn’t he work for a top hospital and not at a small shabby clinic and masquerade as if he has a hernia center? The West Garden Hospital isn’t even a great hospital. Parts of the main hospital look very old inside, as if it hasn’t been renovated since the 1970’s. Moreover, the inpatient ward is across the street from the main hospital. The inpatient ward is a newer building but there is no connecting bridge or underground walkway to the main hospital. Before and after surgery, you are wheeled into a van and driven across the street.

All of this together comprises Joshua Taipei Hernia Center. It sounds crazy, but it is the truth.

Q: Does The Joshua Taipei Hernia Center have a trademark for its “Integrative Hernioplasty®?”

A: Joshua Taipei Hernia Center is violating the laws of the United States of America by illegally claiming it has a trademark for its “Integrated Hernioplasty.” As you can see at the link below, according to the USPTO, “This trademark application was refused, dismissed, or invalidated by the Office and this application is no longer active.” The USPTO effectively rejected the application, because they determined that the applicant did not have a legitimate business. The trademark application has been dead since January 22, 2018. So, Joshua Taipei Hernia Center has been illegally claiming it has a hernia repair trademark for over six years

Q: The website claims Joshua Taipei Hernia Center has a patent. Is that true?

A: Yes, Joshua Taipei Hernia Center has a utility patent. But how much utility does the patent have? Does whatever was patented enable Alpha Lin to make an incision half the size of a normal incision? The answers to these two questions are not much and no, respectively. Here’s a link to the utility patent and below is a clear explanation about why this utility patent has little utility.

The utility patent essentially patents the use of a little tool to push the intestines back into place. This would seem helpful in performing an easier part of hernia surgery, but it does not allow Alpha Lin to reduce the incision size by 50% or more when compared to the standard size of incision for open hernia repair.

There are two primary reasons why standard open repair hernia incisions are the size that they are:

1) Access and Visibility: A larger incision provides better access and visibility to the hernia site, allowing the surgeon to clearly see the structures involved, such as the hernia sac, the contents, and the surrounding tissues. 2) Precision in Repair: The larger incision facilitates precise suturing and repair of the hernia defect. This is crucial for accurately approximating the tissue layers and ensuring a secure closure, which helps in preventing recurrence.

In the patent, Alpha Lin states, “There is an urgent need to develop a novel method of repairing the abdominal wall defects through a single small incision…”. So it’s very clear from this statement that Alpha Lin is very motivated to do surgery with a small incision. However, Alpha Lin’s tool simply facilitates pushing the intestines back into place, the easier part of hernia surgery. Alpha Lin’s much smaller-than-normal incision results in 25% or less open area within which Alpha Lin can operate. Thus, limiting access and visibility and making precision repair much more difficult.

In the patent, he states that he makes “incision[s] smaller than the defect.” My operative report states my hernia was 5 cm. The incision was about 3.5 cm. This fact probably goes a long way to explain why I am so messed up. Alpha Lin didn’t have visibility and access to suture my hernia defect with precision.

For Alpha Lin to claim that this patent enables him to make small incisions like he does means he is either inept or a fraud with delusions of grandeur, or both.

Q: The website claims Alpha Lin has performed over 30,000 hernia surgeries. Can a single surgeon perform 30,000 surgeries in a lifetime?

A: Let’s assume Alpha Lin has been doing surgery for 30 years. That means he has averaged 1,000 surgeries per year. That means Alpha Lin has done 20 operations per week on average every week for the past 30 years. I will let you use your own good judgment to decide what the likelihood of that is. Or perhaps there was a second surgeon who left Joshua Taipei Hernia Center. I would be curious to know why.

Below is the picture that was submitted in 2017 to the USPTO to trademark the Integrated Hernioplasty. Joshua Taipei Hernia Center has Google Reviews dating back to 2016. How is that possible if in 2017, this in the picture was Joshua Taipei Hernia Center. How many of these Google reviews are even real?
